• The Copy Special submenu has been added to the Edit menu: it lets the user copy the content of the active display to the clipboard including thousands separators and ISO code. It also lets the user define and add custom Copy commands so that frequently used text strings including a display's content (with or without thousands separators and ISO code) can be copied to the clipboard.
• The "Add Separator/Remove Separator" command has been added to the File menu. It adds or removes a horizontal separation line after the active display in the Euro Assistant Pro window. One or more separators can be useful when several currencies are listed in the Euro Assistant Pro window (EMU currencies can for instance be visually separated from non-EMU currencies).
• The "Iconize on application switch" and "Floating iconized window" preferences have been introduced. The first option lets the user automatically iconize Euro Assistant Pro when it is switched to the background and de-iconize it when switched back to the foreground. The second option makes the iconized Euro Assistant Pro window float over all other running applications, so that the user doesn't need to activate Euro Assistant Pro in order to use it.
• The "Use proxy" preference has been added. By specifying a HTTP proxy address and port number the user can bypass a firewall or any other security system or can automatically update rates without having to directly access the Internet.
• Euro Assistant Pro is compatible with Mac OS 9.
• Euro Assistant Pro uses Navigation Services (Mac OS 8.5 or higher).
• The "Preferences" dialog box has become a multi-pane dialog box.
• The tape format specified in the "Save Tape" dialog box is now saved.
• The "Online Registration" button in the "About" dialog box and the "www.oanda.com" button in the "Update Rates" dialog box now start up the default browser (for Mac OS 8.1 or lower Internet Config is used).
• The default language in the "Euro Assistant Pro Setup" dialog box is now the running Mac OS language (provided obviously that it is one of the Euro Assistant Pro languages).
• The Czech Koruna, Nicaraguan Cordoba Oro, Russian Ruble, Uganda Shilling, Uruguayan Peso and Yugoslav Dinar ISO codes in the "New Currency" dialog box have been replaced so that they match with the ISO codes specified by the OANDA 164 Currency Converter.
• Some minor bugs have been fixed.
• Euro Assistant Pro has been translated to Spanish and Greek. Version 2.1 (multilingual) runs in 10 languages: English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Greek, Dutch, Danish, Swedish and Finnish.
v2.0.1 - July 13, 1999
• A bug concerning the reading of printing preferences has been fixed. The bug led to the loss of the Page Setup information and, in particular cases, to system errors when the "Page Setup..." or "Print Tape..." commands were chosen.
• The Guinean Franc ISO code in the "New Currency" dialog box has been corrected.
• Euro Assistant Pro has been translated into Japanese. Two versions of Euro Assistant Pro exist now: a multilingual version running in 8 languages (English, German, French, Italian, Dutch, Danish, Swedish, Finnish) and a Japanese version.
v2.0 - June 28, 1999
• Euro Assistant becomes Euro Assistant Pro.
• Euro exchange rates of non-EMU currencies can be automatically updated over the Internet ("Update Rates..." command in the File menu). The user can specify how many and which euro exchange rates to update. By checking the "Update rates at startup" preference, euro exchange rates can be automatically updated at startup (daily or weekly).
Euro exchange rates are retrieved from the fxp.oanda.com server using OANDA Foreign Exchange Protocol (FXP).
• The euro display in the Euro Assistant Pro window can now be moved to a different position or can be removed.
• A custom base currency (default is euro) can be specified by the user by selecting it in the "Base Currency" submenu in the File menu. The base currency's choice affects the rates displayed by the Rate button in the Euro Assistant Pro window and the text clippings obtained by dragging and dropping ISO codes to the desktop, a file or a folder.
The user can also specify how exchange rates have to be displayed by checking either the "Show rate against base currency" or the "Show rate against stronger currency" option in the "Base Currency" submenu.
• The "Add Currency" command has been replaced by the "Add Currency" submenu: the user can now directly select the currency he wants to add.
• The setup of Euro Assistant Pro, which is performed when Euro Assistant Pro runs for the first time, has been completely revised. The new "Euro Assistant Pro Setup" dialog box is multi-pane and enables the user to:
- add up to 12 currencies to the Euro Assistant Pro window;
- define and add custom currencies;
- specify a rounding for all currencies added to the Euro Assistant Pro window;
- update the euro exchange rates of the non-EMU currencies added to the Euro Assistant Pro window by retrieving them over the Internet.
• Several changes concerning drag & drop have been introduced:
- if the ISO code associated to a non-zero display is dragged, then the displayed amount is clipped (the ISO code is also added to the clipping if the option key is pressed while dragging);
- if the base currency's ISO code is dragged (provided the corrisponding display amount is zero), then the base currency's exchange rates of all currencies displayed in the Euro Assistant window are clipped;
- if an ISO code of a currency which is not base currency is dragged (and its amount is zero), then the rate of the dragged currency against the base currency is clipped;
- if the Tape window's content is dragged and the option key is pressed, then just the last conversion listed in the Tape window is clipped.
• The maximum euro exchange rate has been raised from 9999 to 999999, so that also very low value currencies can be defined and used.
• Two new roundings have been introduced (100 and 1000). A temporary rounding (greater than the one specified by the user) has been introduced: it is applied when the user rounding would exceed the calculation precision of Euro Assistant Pro and it is indicated by a bracketed rounding amount in the Rounding popup button.
• The interface of Euro Assistant Pro has been completely revised (Euro Assistant Pro window's drawing routines, dialog boxes, icons, cursors).
• The "Register Euro Assistant Pro" dialog box has been localized and now runs in 8 languages.
• Several minor bugs have been fixed.
v1.2.1 - February 28, 1999
• Euro Assistant has been translated into Danish.
• The limitation of a single non-EMU currency in the Euro Assistant window has been removed: more non-EMU currencies can be now simultaneously displayed.
• The Tape window has become a floating window. Minimum required system software is now System 7.5.
• A bug concerning "big" tape files has been fixed. Text files which were obtained by saving the Tape window's content and which approached the SimpleText 32 K limit, could not be correctly opened by SimpleText.
• Some other minor bugs have been fixed.
v1.2 - February 8, 1999
• Another "important" non-EU currency has been introduced: the Norwegian Krone (NOK). In addition to that up to five other custom currencies can be now defined.
• A series of numeric values, stored in a text file or clipping, can be imported by selecting the "Import..." command in the File menu or by dragging the file icon or clipping on the ISO code of the desired input currency. Euro Assistant automatically calculates all conversions and logs the results in the Tape window.
• Five tape formats have been introduced and can be applied when saving or clipping the Tape window's content. Conversions can be now arranged on a single row or in a tabular form (with or without ISO codes).
• Euro Assistant can be iconized by clicking the little European Union flag located at the bottom left corner of the Euro Assistant window or by choosing the "Iconize" command in the File menu.
• The "Preferences" dialog box has been introduced. The user can now specify:
- whether to show flags in the Euro Assistant window and/or in menus;
- how the active display has to be focused;
- whether to startup iconized;
- whether to show the "Save Tape before quitting?" alert box;
- the tape clipping format and whether to include thousands separators when saving or clipping the tape.
• Euro Assistant has been translated into Swedish.
• The "Clear Tape" command can be undone.
• Several bugs concerning the tape operation have been fixed. Most tape routines have been rewritten.
• A bug preventing the user to save the tape's content on a volume differing from the startup volume has been fixed.
• Some other minor bugs have been fixed.
v1.1 - January 1, 1999
• The irrevocable euro conversion rates for EMU currencies, fixed by the European Council on December 31, 1998, have been introduced. These irrevocable conversion rates are displayed in the "Currencies" dialog box and cannot be modified.
• 9 other non-EMU currencies have been introduced: Euro Assistant now converts euro to USD, JPY, CHF, CAD, AUD and to the 4 European Union currencies not participating to the Economic and Monetary Union (GBP, GRD, SEK and DKK).
Euro exchange rates of non-EMU currencies can be edited in the "Currencies" dialog box. An exchange rate modification date has been associated to each non-EMU currency.
• Euro Assistant has been translated into Finnish.
• A bug concerning decimal and thousands separators has been fixed. Separators with ASCII codes greater than 127 were not handled correctly.
• A bug concerning the saving of the Euro Assistant Preferences file has been fixed. In absence of an existing preferences file and under particular circumstances, Euro Assistant was unable to save its preferences.
• A bug concerning the Cut, Copy and Paste commands in the "Currencies" dialog box has been fixed. The edit commands were not correctly performed if System 7.x.x without System-wide platinum appearance was running.
• Some corrections concerning the Dutch, Spanish and Portuguese localizations have been made.
